Bye Bye Lilly

DD2's best friend, Lilly, is leaving today to live in Scotland for 12 months.  Needless to say DD2 is devastated.  So I have made 2 of  these photo frames, one for each of them.

I have to say that I was very sad to hear that Purely Pomegranate wasn't coming back with the new colour renovation from SU! - it is a perfect match for the school uniform colours.  Good thing I stocked up before it retired at the end of 2009 catty year!

The DSP is from Berry Bliss (retired) and the 'good friend' stamp is from A Good Friend stamp set.

I've used the word window punch for 'friend' and I've hand cut the 'good'.  It's just a shame that the frame holder is just there.  At least it's not over the tail of the 'g'.  I've stamped them in Purely Pomegranate ink on Pretty in Pink card stock.

Scrapbooking 5

This is another page that I finished this weekend.  Can you tell that I'm a bit over scrap booking?  I have used Tangerine Tango card stock, and the DSP is from Sweet Always.  I've used the butterfly from Cottage Garden stamp set, and some Hodgepodge.  The ribbon is white taffeta.

Scrapbooking 4

This page is of DD1.  I love the black and white on this photo.  Her jumper was lots of very bright colours, and it looks so much more elegant in black and white (not to mention easier to scrapbook!).  I've used Baja Breeze card and the beautiful cloud paper from the Sweet Slumber Specialty Paper.  I've used two types of Real Red ribbon, the thin grosgrain and the spotted ribbon from the previous summer mini.  The stamps are from Three Little Words.

Scrapbooking 3

Next page.  This one is DH's favourite, apparently I'm very cleaver the way that I've used the trees and lined them up with the trees in the photo.  I have left a big space for my sister to do the journalling.  This photo is of my sister and her man, somewhere in the wilds of France.  Here is a close up of the embellishments.

Colours are Old Olive, Basic Grey and Whisper White.  I've used the 1 inch and 3/4 inch circle punches.  Stamp set is Lovely as a Tree.

Scrapbooking 2

Here is the next page.

This one uses Real Red, Ballet Blue and a little bit of Basic Black. I've used stamps from I {Heart} Hearts and Always. I have also used a journalling block from a retired SU! set (sorry name escapes me at the moment).  You can't really tell, but I've stamped the background in the spotted heart outline too.

Here is the embellishment.

Scrapbooking

I am normally a card maker.  I dabble in scrapbooking, I enjoy it, but I find 12 x 12 a bit intimidating.  I have a 6 x 6 album that I've done, but it is really to show off the photo, as there isn't all that much room to add embellishment.

The answer to my dilemma?  8 x 8 inch scrap booking.  Why?  My sister has gone overseas for 5 months, and I thought I'd send her a little reminder of home.  Mind you, she left in May, and I have literally just finished the last page this weekend.  They say that good things come to those who wait. LOL :-)

As I am sending this to her, I have taken the liberty of using lots of things from my non-SU! stash.  There is also lots of retired SU! stuff.  I will be posting a lot of these pages over the next couple of weeks, and you have actually seen one already (click here for original post).

So here is the first page.

This page uses Not Quite Navy, Bashful Blue and Whisper White.  The stamps are from I {Heart} Hearts and A Happy Heart.  I've used the scallop square and 1 1/4 inch square punches.  I have hand cut the small heart on the top right box.

Here are some close ups of the scallop boxes.

And here is the boys version....

In my last post, I showed you the girls version of the magnet that I had the children at school make.  This term, I have 3 boys in year 1 who have also signed up for stamping (this is offered to years 1-4).  So I have had to come up with a boys version of the 4 activities.

So without further ado, here is the boys version of the magnet.

I have used the alligator from Wild About You stamp set, the card stock colours are Brilliant Blue, Bashful Blue and Whisper White.  Punches are fantastic with kids, and this magnet uses Curly Label, 1 1/4" circle, 1" circle, large oval punch.

More Kids Ideas

I thought I'd share with you another idea that I have had the kids at school make.  This is a butterfly magnet.

Here is the angled view, so that you can see the acetate wings. This is meant to look like the butterfly is flying.

I've used Real Red and Pretty in Pink card stock and ink, and Flight of the Butterfly stamp set.  I've also used the scallop circle, 1 3/8, 1 1/4, and butterfly punches.  I've used the 2 way glue pen and Dazzling Diamonds to put the sparkle on the wings.  I used a tiny bit of Sticky Strip to attach the acetate to the card stock for the wings.

The magnets I found at my local dollar shop.  (8 for $2.00 - bargain).

Sparkly.......

This is one of the cards I taught at yesterdays technique class.  It was supposed to be one of those easy techniques, but it proved to be very funny (maybe you had to be there?!?!?!?!?)  We all had a good laugh over these flowers, that's for sure.  I think they look great.  Every girl needs a bit of dazzles now and then.

The technique is quite simple in theory, though perhaps you should start with a less detailed image. (This flower is from Playful Petals)  Simply stamp on acetate with Stazon, let dry, turn over and cover with the embossing buddy.  Put Crystal Effects where you want your first colour to be, and then sprinkle glitter over.  Let dry, and then repeat with each colour in turn. In this image I've used the pink glitter from the Fine Supanova Collection and Dazzling Diamonds.  When you are finished. attach to your project glitter side down.

And here is the embellishment in context on the card.

And here is another example, this time using the orange and chocolate glitter from Fine Supanova, and Dazzling Diamonds.

Hope you like them.  And do give this technique a go.....It's a great one. (Yes girls, it really is!!)

Another Birthday......

June to August is always fairly caotic in our house as all 5 of us have our birthdays.  So today it was me who got some lovely cards made for me.  So I thought I'd share them with you.

This is the first card that I recieved at 6.24am this morning, from DD2.

Then shortly after I got this card from DD1 (methinks that someone has been watching me do my bows lately!)

I also got a pressiewhich only a fellow papercrafter would understand - my very own portable laminator.  Yay....something that I've wanted for a long time.

I then had a technique class here this morning at the much more healthy time of 10am.  My lovely friends brought with them a devine orange and chocolate ring cake to share, complete with candle (thanks Jeanette)and song (thanks Michelle).

This card came from Anna.

And this one came from Cassie

I have had many phone calls and presents today, including a Skype card from Jo, for which I have to say a very big

THANK YOU!!!

I have had a wonderful day, and I feel very special.

A Significant Birthday

Why is it that whenever you really want to make a lovely, thoughtful, personal birthday card, it never seems to work.  I can make (I think) beautiful cards, just because, or for a friend.  Hubby had a fairly significant birthday (ending in a zero) recently.  I sat down to make him a card (yes the night before) and do you think I could come up with something that I was really happy with?

Here is what I ended up giving him.

Colours are Basic Grey, Baja Breeze and Whisper White.  Stamp sets are Occasions for All, Greetings Eight, and A Little Birthday Cheer. DSP is from Urban Oasis.

I'd love your comments as to how you think I could have tweaked it to make it just a little more Wow.
