A Friendly Birthday

I thought I'd give you a change of pace from scrap booking!  This is a card that I've designed for the children at school to make.  This term I have some boys in the group, as well as girls, and a wide age range, from 5 to 10 years.  This makes it a little difficult to come up with a single birthday card.  But I think that I've succeeded.

The card itself is quite simple.  I've used a Whisper White card base, and then had the children stamp the images from Fox and Friends on a strip of Whisper White, which they have then punched out with a 1 1/4 inch circle punch.  These are then stuck to the card base, to provide a bit of texture and then the sentiments from a Little Birthday Cheer are stamped top and bottom.   Inks used are from Earth Elements - Old Olive, Ruby Red, Really Rust, Close to Cocoa, Pumpkin Pie and Not Quite Navy.

A Significant Birthday

Why is it that whenever you really want to make a lovely, thoughtful, personal birthday card, it never seems to work.  I can make (I think) beautiful cards, just because, or for a friend.  Hubby had a fairly significant birthday (ending in a zero) recently.  I sat down to make him a card (yes the night before) and do you think I could come up with something that I was really happy with? 

Here is what I ended up giving him.

Colours are Basic Grey, Baja Breeze and Whisper White.  Stamp sets are Occasions for All, Greetings Eight, and A Little Birthday Cheer. DSP is from Urban Oasis.

I'd love your comments as to how you think I could have tweaked it to make it just a little more Wow.

Melon Mambo Madness

I thought I'd share with you a card that I taught at last weeks technique class.

This was a two-fold technique, as not only did we do the cool distressed flowers, but we also learnt how to make our own buttons, so that no matter what project you are working on, you will always have a button to match. 

It's really simple........Here's how.

1. 
   
   Punch out 3 circles, in your desired size, from card stock or DSP.
2. 
   
   Use 2 way glue to adhere them together.
3. 
   
   Poke holes in the desired pattern.
4. 
   
   Apply Crystal Effects over the top, avoiding the holes.
5. 
   
   Allow to dry.
6. 
   
   Thread ribbon, string, or a really thin strip of card stock through the holes.
7. 
   
   Attach to your project, either with a glue dot or dimensional.

After the class had finished, I had some extra card stock cut to size, so I have adapted the remaining C/S to make up a few other cards. 

The first card is still a birthday card, but one that can be used when you remember in advance. LOL.

Stamp sets are All a Flutter and A Little Birthday Cheer.  Colours are Melon Mambo and Soft Suede.

Then I decided to change to Vintage Vogue, and change the design slightly.  I had misplaced the SS middle strips of CS, so I used the border stamp to imitate the strip. 

But then I wasn't sure if I liked that or not, so I made up another one without the centre strip.  Even though it looks far simpler, I think I prefer the second one.

I'd love to have your opinion on which card you prefer - Soft Suede middle stamp or not.  Please leave me a comment letting me know which you think works better.
